History - 2013
Written on February 1, 2017
The past year has proven to be another very busy and highly successful one for our organisation. Our AGM and Training Weekend in Dunedin was a great success and attendance numbers met our expectations. Once again those who attended took the opportunity to participate in the informative seminars and forums presented by some of the best presenters available and also soaked up the networking opportunities. Who will forget the opening speech given by Peter Chin one of the most humorous guest speakers you will ever hear. It was also refreshing to listen to Ashley McDonald's keynote address where he gave us an insight of how someone from outside the organisation considers our collective membership does in contributing to the 'well-being' of our respective communities.
Our thanks must go to Tania Graham and our hosts Taieri and Dunedin societies for the organisation and support they gave to Kate our Administrator in putting the whole weekend together.
We are most grateful for the ongoing support we receive from our corporate members at conference time not only by supplying equipment but also the manpower to transport, install and operate this equipment at no cost to MTNZ. We also receive sponsorship towards meals, drinks, awards and the provision of presenters/speakers for the many forums and seminars that are now an integral part of our annual meeting. Thank you to my own society Napier Operatic for hosting this year's gathering. This will be the third occasion that Napier has hosted this event in the past 30 years which is a huge undertaking both from a financial and logistical perspective. No doubt we will reap the rewards of the efforts of Sonya Aifai and her support team this weekend.
Planning is well in hand for 2015 in Christchurch and we look forward during this meeting to hearing on progress from Kate and representatives of Showbiz Christchurch our hosts. We can also confirm that conference 2016 will be hosted by Rotorua Musical Theatre - thanks to Richard Marshall for his work on the event thus far and Zone Two rep Ngaire Holmes.
Our special thanks go to John Herber Ltd & NZ Fire Shield our major sponsors who continue to generously sponsor your organisation. This support received from Graeme, Diane and their family enables MTNZ to operate under a lot less financial pressure and allows us to undertake projects that otherwise could not possibly be considered.
During the year we ran another extremely successful Directors Course 'The Next Step' in Palmerston North which Kate gave us an extensive report on in her regular Spotlight newsletters and on the courses planned for Auckland and Christchurch in 2014. My thanks to Glen and Karen Ruske of Bounce NZ for their generous financial support. And John MacGibbon from ML Consultants who assisted with the “hands on technical” aspect of the course - very much appreciated John - thank you.
This has enabled MTNZ to continue to provide these courses and to keep registration costs to an acceptable level. To the team at Abbey Musical Theatre thank you so much for your generous hosting of this year's event.
Markham Lee - Showbiz Christchurch. Markham's contribution and commitment to musical theatre, both at national and community level over many years has been truly outstanding and his Life Membership is richly deserved.
